THOMAS SANDELL WEARS COTTON PYJAMAS

Swedish architect and designer Thomas Sandell has spent his career shaping the spaces we inhabit. At his summer home in the Stockholm archipelago, he introduces CDLP’s Cotton Pyjamas in Dark Navy, reflecting on daily rituals, personal style and the relationship between rest and creativity.

What does the lake house give you that the city can't?

Calmness and concentration.

How does a day at the lake house begin and end?

An early morning breakfast, then I spend time in the studio painting, sketching or drawing. Time for a late lunch, which I usually cook. In the afternoon, reading, chatting with my wife, planning dinner or heading off to visit a friend who lives on one of the other islands in the southern archipelago.

What does rest mean to you, and has that changed over the years?

I now realise that rest is necessary to be creative and enjoy the day.

If you had to describe your way of living in one sentence, what would it be?

Lighthearted, in the moment.

Which materials do you return to again and again, in architecture and in what you wear?

Wood and ceramics. I wear a classic look with a twist. The older you get, the more you need to focus on quality. When you’re young, almost everything works. A tight “Iron Maiden” T-shirt is in no way flattering on a middle-aged man.
