AUSTRALIAN BORN PHOTOGRAPHER AKILA BERJAOUI IS THE FOURTH COLLABORATOR IN CDLP LENSED BY—AN ONGOING PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES FEATURING GUEST ARTISTS.
Berjaoui traveled to Hydra Island, Greece to document the story that features CDLP swimwear over the course of one week. Alternating shots between a Minolta and Contax G2, male sensuality is delicately captured against a hazy backdrop of sun-drenched cliffs, clear blue skies, and the inky Myrtoan Sea. “THE SUBJECT, SWANN FINES, I AM LUCKY ENOUGH TO CALL MY BOYFRIEND AND PARTNER IN LIFE—SO THE EXPERIENCE OF SHOOTING WAS INTIMATE AND EXPLORATORY. I LOVE TO DOCUMENT MY JOURNEYS BY CAPTURING THE 'IN BETWEEN' MOMENTS, THE SENSUALITY OF THE MALE AND FEMALE FORM, AND UNSUSPECTING BATHING BEAUTIES.”—AKILA BERJAOUI
“AKILA HAS A UNIQUE WAY OF CAPTURING COLORS AND DREAMY ATMOSPHERES, CREATING TALES THAT ARE TRULY ASPIRATIONAL. WHILE THE SUBJECTS ARE NORMALLY WOMEN, I WAS CURIOUS TO SEE HOW MASCULINE ENERGY WOULD TRANSLATE THROUGH AKILA'S LENS. THE RESULT IS SENSUAL AND VULNERABLE—YET ALSO EVOKES THIS EXCITING, INTIMATE FEELING ABOUT SUMMER. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO NOT LET YOUR MIND WANDER TO BALMY, SUMMER TIMES.”—CHRISTIAN LARSON, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
The Collection
Reinforcing CDLP’s ongoing commitment to working with sustainable fabrics, each swim style is made with Econyl—a regenerated premium nylon fibre. Econyl is made by recovering nylon waste from oceans and landfills, such as fishing nets from the oceans, fabric scraps from mills and carpets destined for landfill. Through a radical regeneration and purification process, the nylon waste is recycled right back to its original purity. Econyl has has the potential to be recycled infinitely, without ever losing its quality
